Pricing & availability

Promotions & discounts

Promotions adjust prices for a campaign without rewriting the underlying rate plan: a percentage off, a fixed amount off, a stay-N-pay-X deal. A promotion runs for a defined window, targets a defined audience and is applied on top of the base rate.

Two axes: promotion type and discount math

A promotion is described along two independent axes:

  • Promotion type describes what kind of campaign this is: last-minute, advance-purchase, member-only, day-of-week, multi-night and so on.
  • Discount math describes how the price changes: a percentage off, a fixed amount off, a percentage off a specific night, or the Nth night free.

A single promotion combines one of each. "Last-minute deal: 20% off bookings made within 7 days of arrival" is type Last-minute with math Percentage. "Stay 7, pay 6" is type Multi-night with math Nth-night free.

The ten promotion types

Type What it is for Typical example
Standard A basic discount with no special trigger. 15% off everything in May.
Last-minute Applies when the booking is made close to arrival. 20% off bookings made within 7 days of arrival.
Advance-purchase Applies when the booking is made far ahead of arrival. 15% off bookings made 60+ days before arrival.
Time-bound campaign A named campaign tied to a specific calendar window, such as Black Friday, a summer launch or an anniversary. Black Friday: 30% off every property for stays from 27 to 30 November.
Market-specific rate Appears only for travellers from specific markets. 10% off for travellers booking from Germany.
Mobile-only rate A mobile rate for channels that publish one. It keeps the limits those channels set: 10% to 80% off and a limit on how far ahead of arrival the booking is made. 15% off in the mobile app for bookings made up to 48 hours before arrival.
New-property opening Time-limited promotional rate for a newly listed property. 25% off the first 90 days a new property is live.
Day-of-week pricing Targets specific days of the week. Sunday-night discount: 20% off Sunday stays.
Multi-night Applies to stays of N or more nights, often paired with Nth-night math. Stay 7 nights, pay 6 (the 7th night free).
Members-only Visible only to logged-in members on direct channels. Members get 15% off, all rooms, all dates.

You pick the type that matches the campaign's intent. Each sales channel receives the promotion in the form it supports: as the same promotion type where the channel has one, otherwise as a discounted base rate.

A small mobile discount does not need the Mobile-only rate type. A Standard, Last-minute or Advance-purchase promotion can be limited to mobile bookings with the audience setting, without the limits above. 5% extra off in the mobile app is a Standard promotion with the Mobile app audience. See Audience targeting.

The four discount math types

Math What it means Common pairing
Percentage A percentage off the base rate of every night. Standard, Members-only, Last-minute, Time-bound campaign.
Fixed amount A flat amount off each night, in the property's currency. Standard, Last-minute, Advance-purchase, Day-of-week pricing, Members-only.
Nth-night percentage A percentage off one night of the stay, for example 50% off the 3rd night. Multi-night.
Nth-night free One night of the stay is free, for example the 7th night of a 7-night stay. Multi-night.

A fixed amount can be below 1. It must be a whole multiple of the smallest unit of the currency and at most 99. In EUR it moves in steps of 0.01, so EUR 0.60 off each night is valid; a currency without decimals takes whole amounts. A fixed amount larger than the night's price brings that night to zero, never below.

Channels do not all support all four math types natively. For a channel that does not support fixed amount or Nth-night free directly, the discount is sent as a re-priced daily rate, so the partner receives a plain number. The traveller sees the same price either way.

Which night gets the discount

An Nth-night discount lands on one of two nights. Set it in Discounted night on the Discount tab:

Setting Which night is discounted
The night you set (default) Night N of the stay. With N = 3, the 3rd night.
The cheapest night The cheapest of the first N nights of the stay. Between equal prices, the later night.

Hotel Sunrise runs Stay 3, pay 2 with N = 3. A guest stays four nights at EUR 120, 100, 110 and 90. With The night you set, the 3rd night (110) is free. With The cheapest night, the cheapest of the first three nights, the 2nd night (100), is free. The 4th night is outside the first three and is charged in full either way.

What a promotion defines

The promotion form has five tabs:

Tab What you set
Basics Name, code, promotion type and whether the promotion is active.
Discount Discount math and value, which night an Nth-night discount lands on, whether the promotion can combine with others (Can combine with other promotions) and its priority.
Schedule Stay dates, booking dates, days of the week and how a stay is read against them, booking hours, hours before arrival, and minimum and maximum stay.
Audience Who can claim the promotion.
Distribution The rate plans and sales channels the promotion applies to. A rate plan created later joins the promotion from its own Promotions tab; see Promotions for a new plan.

Every field is validated before the promotion is saved. Missing or contradictory rules block the promotion until you fix them.

Days of the week and stay dates

A promotion can be limited to days of the week and to stay dates. The Days of the week and stay dates setting on the Schedule tab decides how a stay is read against both:

Setting How a stay is checked
Each night on its own (default) Every night is checked separately against the selected days and the stay dates. A night that qualifies is discounted; a night that does not is charged in full.
The arrival day decides the whole stay The stay is checked once. The arrival day must be one of the selected days and every night of the stay must fall inside the stay dates. Then every night is discounted; otherwise none is.

Hotel Sunrise runs Weeknight Saver: 10% off, Sunday to Thursday, stay dates 1 to 31 October 2026.

Guest stay Each night on its own The arrival day decides the whole stay
Arrives Thursday 15 October, 2 nights Thursday night discounted, Friday night full price Both nights discounted
Arrives Saturday 10 October, 2 nights Sunday night discounted, Saturday night full price No discount, because Saturday is not a selected day

The arrival-day setting reads the stay dates as a whole too. With every day selected and stay dates 1 to 31 October, a 3-night stay that arrives on 30 October is not discounted, because the night of 1 November falls outside the dates. Read night by night, the nights of 30 and 31 October would be discounted.

Choose by what the promotion is about. Use Each night on its own for a price tied to nights, such as a Sunday-night rate. Use The arrival day decides the whole stay for a promotion tied to the start of the stay, such as a weekday arrival offer.

Booking hours and lead time

Three rules read the moment the booking is made: the booking dates (Book from and Book until), the booking hours and the hours before arrival. All three use the property's own clock, not the guest's or a server's. A booking made at 01:30 on 15 October for a hotel in Istanbul counts as 15 October, not as the evening before, so a promotion that opens for bookings on 15 October applies to it. Time-bound campaign and New-property opening promotions take no booking dates or booking hours; a campaign is defined by its stay dates.

Booking hours

Booking hours limit a promotion to bookings made inside a daily window. Set From and Until on the Schedule tab, in whole hours. The window opens at the From hour and closes just before the Until hour, and it can run overnight. Leave both on Any time for no limit.

From Until Bookings that qualify
16:00 09:00 From 16:00 in the evening until 09:00 the next morning, for example a Midnight Deal.
18:00 Any time From 18:00 until midnight.
Any time 09:00 From midnight until 09:00.

From and Until cannot be the same hour. The hours are checked when the guest searches and when the booking is held. A price the guest has already seen can lag a window edge by a few minutes. Booking hours are not available on Time-bound campaign and New-property opening promotions.

Hours before arrival

Last-minute promotions use Max advance, Advance-purchase promotions use Min advance, and Market-specific and Mobile-only rates use at least one of the two. Enter each as a number in Days, the default, or in Hours: 60 days before arrival is 60 with Days, and a day counts as 24 hours. The time runs from the moment of booking to 00:00 on the arrival date at the property, in whole hours rounded down. They are not counted to the check-in time, and a booking made after 00:00 on the arrival date is 0 hours ahead.

Hotel Sunrise runs a Last-minute promotion with Max advance 48 hours. A booking made at 22:00 on 14 October for arrival on 15 October is 2 hours ahead and qualifies. A booking made at 23:00 on 12 October is 49 hours ahead and does not.

Audience targeting

Promotions almost always target somebody specific:

  • Public: appears to everyone, on every channel where the rate plan is exposed.
  • Members only: visible only to logged-in members on direct channels.
  • Market-specific: only travellers from a specific country or region see it.
  • Mobile app or Mobile (all surfaces): only bookings made in the mobile app, or in the app, a mobile browser or a tablet. Standard, Last-minute, Advance-purchase and Mobile-only rate promotions can use it.
  • Channel-specific: runs on one channel and not on others.
  • B2B partner-specific: for a contracted distributor, not retail.

Audience rules read from the same per-channel exposure setting used elsewhere. A promotion that targets only one channel never appears on another.

Promotion codes

Choose Promotion code as the audience and enter the code guests will use, such as AUTUMN10. A code uses 3 to 32 characters: letters A to Z, digits, hyphens or underscores. It is stored in uppercase and must be unique among the property's current promotions.

In the web shop, the guest enters one code at checkout. Search results do not include that code's discount, and connected suppliers' offers do not accept it. The selected stay must still meet the promotion's dates, guest rules and other conditions. An unknown, expired or inapplicable code is refused with a reason.

The code follows the same rules for combining promotions as other discounts. It does not automatically add another saving to the lowest price. The guest reviews the recalculated total before paying and can remove the code to recalculate without it.

Non-refundable promotional offers

When you mark a promotion Non-refundable, choose one of the property's non-refundable cancellation policies. The discounted offer uses that policy.

On a refundable rate plan, the refundable option keeps its own terms and any eligible refundable promotions. A separate non-refundable option appears only when the non-refundable promotion applies and makes it cheaper. For example, the same room can show a refundable 200 EUR offer and a non-refundable 180 EUR offer. The guest chooses the price and terms together.

If the discount applies to only one night, the selected non-refundable terms still cover the whole booking. A rate plan that is already non-refundable keeps one discounted offer. Review the cancellation terms on the chosen offer before confirming.

How promotions combine

When more than one promotion applies to the same night, a property setting decides which of them are used. It is in the Promotions tab of the property, in the How promotions combine card.

Choice What happens
The best discount wins (default) Only one discount applies to the night: the one that leaves the lowest price.
Stack every combinable promotion Every promotion marked Can combine with other promotions applies. A promotion that is not marked combinable does not apply.
Stack, plus one that is not combinable Every combinable promotion applies, plus the one not marked combinable that leaves the lowest price once the combinable ones are taken off.
The highest priority wins Only the promotion with the highest priority applies. Set the priority on the Discount tab of each promotion.
Use the organization default The property follows the organization's setting. Without one, the best discount wins.

Review the resulting quote when several promotions can apply. The selected combination setting determines the discount offered to the guest. Use the displayed price and applied promotions when checking the campaign.

Stacking skips promotions that are not combinable. Under Stack every combinable promotion, a promotion not marked combinable does not apply to the night. Mark the promotions that should stack before you switch the setting. The card shows a reminder under both stacking choices.

Loyalty-member promotions stack on top. A Loyalty members promotion marked combinable applies in addition to whichever choice you make.

  1. Open the Promotions tab

Open the property and go to Promotions. You need permission to edit property settings to change the setting.

  2. Choose how promotions combine

In How promotions combine, choose one of the options. The card names where the setting in force comes from: this property, the organization default or the platform default.

  3. Save

Select Save. The next search and booking use the new setting, and the change appears in the activity log.

Layered on top of restrictions

A promotion does not bypass restrictions:

  • Stop-sale stays in force. A promoted rate is still unavailable on a closed date.
  • Minimum stay applies. A promotion that targets 5+ nights does not weaken a 7-night minimum stay rule.
  • Per-channel exposure applies. A promotion's exposure is the intersection of the rate plan's exposure and the promotion's audience.
  • The floor price applies. A night never sells below the floor price (the minimum selling rate) of its plan. The displayed discount reflects any limit imposed by the floor. Review the resulting selling price before opening the campaign.

This keeps an over-aggressive promotion from selling a closed date, violating a minimum-stay contract or selling under the floor.

How a promotion looks in the rate calendar

When a promotion is active for a cell, the calendar shows it explicitly:

  • The base rate is on the cell (what the rate plan says).
  • A small badge indicates N% off, Spring Saver active.
  • The derived rate (after the promotion) shows in a secondary line.
  • Hovering or clicking shows which promotions applied and in what order.

If a promotion applies to the wrong cells, the calendar shows it before the mistake reaches a guest.

Discounts vs. promotions

The platform uses both terms; they overlap in practice:

  • A promotion is a campaign: a named, time-bound, audience-targeted price adjustment.
  • A discount is the adjustment itself: the 15% off, the EUR 30 off, the N=X.

A promotion typically defines a discount, or several. The vocabulary in the Console mirrors how operators talk about it.

Per-channel promotion exposure

Like everything else in pricing, promotions can be selectively exposed:

  • Run only on direct channels. Keep an exclusive offer for travellers booking through your own funnels.
  • Run only on a specific sales channel. Show a promotion only on hotel comparison sites to compete on price visibility.
  • Run only for one supplier source. Pass through a partner's promotional pricing.
  • Hide from B2B. Run a retail promotion without it leaking to wholesale partners.

The setting is the same one you use for rate plans and inventory.
